May 17- May 21

Some fun writing:
Cara and I have been creating some short stories using a shared writing technique - We take turns choosing the next word in the story. Cara is encouraged to spell her words using her phonetic or known word knowledge and then I show her the correct way to spell the word by writing it above her word. We also talk about when to end a sentence and start a new one. As well, we discuss how we are going to make the story all fit together i.e. The characters need to remain throughout the story.

Some of Cara's inventive spelling looks like this:
prises = princess
wus = was
de = day
wer = were
flis = flies
ene = any

Here is a sample of Cara's first shared story:
Once upon a time a princess was having a party with her friends and was having fun. All day long a dragon was watching a caterpillar and a dog who love to play with rats. The dog and the caterpillar got to eat at the princess's party and she gave them cake.

Some other writing activities this past week:
~ Created a 60th birthday card for Grandma
~ Helped create a list with the family - "Things We Love About Grandma"
~ Practiced writing her address by mailing a drawing to her sister Chloe. The next day Chloe received a letter in the mail. :)
~ Wrote a second shared story about a dog whose bone could fly.:)
