May 24-28

Cara has been learning math from the world around her. Here are some of the ways:

Here is the link to share more information about: Lemonade for Sale

Cara is finally able to count by 5s to 100 very well. She was stuck for the longest time on the 10 - 15 - 20 but rattles it off with no problem now! We've been practicing during "road trips".

Cara has started to count money. The other day she told me she had $0.46. I asked her what coins she had (this was happening while we were driving) and she told me 4 dimes and 6 pennies. She is very interested in money right now and is learning the value of the different coins quickly. She no longer thinks that more coins = more money i.e. realizes that one loonie is a lot more than 20 pennies.

We have been returning our juice boxes and bottles to the recycling depot to earn money for our "savings" jar. Cara sorts the containers and then joyfully receives the refund. Both times she and her sister have earned $1.40.

Addition and subtraction WAR - We take time to play a game of war to practice addition and subtraction skills. The last time we played Cara won the first two rounds and announced that this was because she prayed that she would win before each round! God is good! ;)

Finally, we have been working with hundreds charts. I came across this amazing website and printed off some suitable activities from it: 20 + Things to Do With a Hundreds Chart. Cara has been finding these activities quite enjoyable and is identifying number patterns and reviewing number identification to 100.
